  • anti fatigue mat

Crocs. Stupid-ass looking crocs will absolutely save you when at a standing desk. Or really, standing for a long time on any hard surface like a concrete office floor. The next best thing would be high-end business shoes designed for comfort while you deliver powerpoint all day, or just hiking boots. But crocs are really the most comfortable and are easy to slip off for more appropriate dress shoes if you’re in an office.

Thicker and softer than any standing mat, they freaking deliver. And you can move around without having to be perfectly positioned in a small area. Also, there’s no mat to get in the way of your chair when you sit down.

  • The old internet was a crucible for robust software. Slow, small, unreliable, the very protocols that send data over the wire and through the air had to build in all kinds of fail-safe features to even approach usefulness. From this we got things like email (POP & SMTP), internet relay chat (IRC), and the world-wide web (HTTP). Things used to be so bad, that these technologies endure as extremely over-built in the modern era. And if things get worse, it will keep working as it always has. They’ll probably stick with us because of that.

  • Because their boomer/gen x parents didn’t read to them as a child.

As a gen-Xer, this hurt to read. If I knew my classmates were going to grow up to be such dipshit parents, I would have slapped some sense into them. I mean, a lot of them were already pretty awful as teenagers… but, that wasn’t a phase? Man, I am sincerely, deeply sorry.

  • Watch it? Hell, I’d crowdfund it if it wasn’t for the fact that Muppets are a Disney property. The House of the Mouse has more than enough cash to make this work.

FWIW, this format would work with a bunch of awkward teens at the game table.

You could also go the other way and re-release “Honor among Thieves” by constantly cutting away to the game table with hilarious die-rolls and the rest. Think: “Of Dice and Men”, or “Dorkness Rising”.

  • Much like living with ADHD, relying on technology is a godsend for navigating stuff other people find easy.

For fellow brains out there: my phone’s calendar and reminders supplement the bits of my brain that just can’t/won’t organize or tell time properly. I schedule all kinds of inane stuff and it really helps. With practice, anxiety has dropped to the occasional “where is my phone?” easter-egg hunt. My cyborg-like existence is a lot less stressful now.

In the real world: NY State has the distinction of having some of the most well-intended-yet-confusing-as-hell signage in the country. That said, PA has some of the most under-specified signage and is just is terrible for totally different reasons. Good thing navigation apps like Google Maps make it all irrelevant.
